On behalf of our dedicated faculty, I warmly welcome you to The Wingate School (TWS). If you have the opportunity to visit Mexico City, we would be delighted to welcome you to our semi-rural, green campus in Huixquilucan, on the western edge of the ever-vibrant city. Our doors are always open, and we would love to introduce you to our school, its values, and facilities.
Parents applying to TWS typically seek three key aspects: academic excellence, a high level of English, and strong values. Academically, we are an accredited Cambridge International School and an authorised International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. Our curriculum follows a structured progression, from the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) and International Primary Curriculum (IPC), through Lower Cambridge, IGCSE, and ultimately the IBDP. Our faculty members come from a diverse range of backgrounds and all parts of the globe, bringing international expertise to our British-international curriculum.
All main classroom teachers are native English speakers and are selected based on their qualifications and experience, as a curriculum is only as good as the teachers who understand how best to deliver it.
Character education is embedded throughout our curriculum as well as in stand-alone classes. Members of our committed Psychology team take great care in supporting the socio-emotional development of our students. Our goal is to prepare well-rounded young men and women who can confidently and ethically navigate the challenges of the modern world.
TWS has established strong relationships with universities and colleges worldwide. We regularly host university visits on campus and take students to college fairs, ensuring they have access to the information and support they need for higher education. With fine IB results, and the expertise we can provide through our college counselling programme, we have every expectation that our students can enter the colleges of their choice. While university placements are just one measure of a school's success, they are a significant milestone for our graduating students.
Students are at the heart of our educational philosophy. We operate two well-stocked libraries with approximately 20,000 volumes and integrate technology into teaching while maintaining a balanced approach. In addition to academics, students benefit from an extensive extracurricular programme that includes sports, cultural activities, and music. It should be noted that TWS’s Music programme touches on the lives of most students. In building our orchestra, many play the violin, viola, cello or double bass.
STEM education is also a key focus at TWS, taught as a co-curricular activity, with robotics also available as an extracurricular option. Our students participate in competitions and have achieved notable successes. Recently, they topped a list of 50 STEM teams from across Mexico.
We believe the world should be our students’ oyster, which is why we also send our Model United Nations (MUN) participants abroad. Their first international experience was in Florida, USA, and they are now preparing for a conference in Texas as I write.
Our campus, now exceeding 40,000 square metres, continues to expand. Recent additions include a full-sized astroturf football field with panoramic views of the surrounding hills. Future developments are planned to accommodate our growth. Situated next to Rancho Mirador, a vast natural space, our campus offers unique opportunities such as 'woodland walks' and outdoor learning experiences in subjects like botany, geography, and creative writing. Students also have the opportunity to participate in equestrian activities as part of our extracurricular offerings.
A happy and cohesive community is important to us and is central to our school culture. To that end, the PTA plays an active role in school initiatives, organising events such as our annual International Carnival, which recently welcomed over 1,500 attendees. This event not only raises funds but also strengthens the bonds within our diverse and international school community. Additionally, the PTA supports a system of Homeroom Parents, facilitating communication between families and the school.
Our school is dedicated to serving our families and their children. We encourage you to explore the opportunities that TWS has to offer. If possible, we invite you to visit us so we can take the time to discuss whether our school is the right fit for your family's needs.
Viva TWS!
