Our school exists to shape young lives, equipping students to excel academically while becoming ethical, well-rounded future leaders. Human and character formation are central to our philosophy, ensuring students develop in a balanced and harmonious way—socially, intellectually and professionally. This approach empowers them with the knowledge, skills and values needed for lifelong success and fulfilment.

Running parallel to our rigorous academics, our School of Character is a defining feature of TWS, developed using leading resources from the USA and UK. Virtues and values are embedded into everyday learning from kindergarten onwards, fostering our core values of respect, honesty, kindness, gratitude and self-discipline. Through dedicated character education classes and integrated teaching opportunities, we ensure that students leave not only well-educated but also prepared to make a meaningful impact on the world.

Human Formation

At TWS, human formation is at the core of our educational philosophy. We believe that education should guide students in becoming complete individuals who can fulfil their potential— intellectually, emotionally, socially and morally. Our teachers instill a love of learning, self-discipline, and the importance of helping others.

School of Character

TWS is more than an academic institution; we are a School of Character that actively shapes students into principled individuals. Our character education programme is embedded in the curriculum, allowing students to develop virtues that will serve them throughout their lives. We are not simply shaping historians or mathematicians; we are forming the whole person. Well-rounded, ethical, and happy individuals who will go out into the world and, with a cascading effect, have a positive impact on those around them.

Through our School of Character, we instill essential human values, shaping students into ethical leaders. Academic excellence is balanced with personal growth, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration.

Character formation at TWS also includes a strong partnership between the school and parents, ensuring character education extends beyond the classroom.

What Is Character Education?

Character education at TWS is the deliberate effort to cultivate praiseworthy behaviours. The virtues that help form a solid character include generosity, a sense of fairness, perseverance, self-control, a positive attitude, hard work, integrity, and gratitude.

Character education provides effective solutions to ethical and academic issues that are of ongoing concern in our vibrant yet complex world. It transforms our day-to-day experience at TWS by improving school culture, increasing achievement for all learners, developing ethical citizens, and fostering pro-social behaviours.

How Is Character Education Integrated Into the Curriculum?

At TWS, character education is seamlessly integrated into the curriculum, ensuring that students develop a strong moral compass alongside academic excellence. Across various subjects, students explore essential themes such as self-awareness, community, and global citizenship. By making character development a core component of our educational approach, we ensure that students graduate from TWS not only well-educated but also well-prepared to face life's challenges.

Parents are an essential part of this journey, and are invited to attend three Character Education sessions per academic year.

Our Values

Our school is built on a foundation of respect, honesty, kindness, gratitude, and self-discipline. The school community strives to embody these values in every aspect of school life.

We aim to help children develop the following personal qualities: Inquiry, thoughtfulness, cooperation, respect, lucid communication, adaptability, resilience, and ethical awareness.

The school motto is "Strive, Learn & Serve." Service is the action arm of our School of Character, which supports our philosophy of providing excellent academics while shaping young people who understand themselves and engage in numerous opportunities for social responsibility.

Well-Being & Pastoral Care

Our well-being and pastoral care programme is an integral part of The School of Character, which aims to foster a community where every member can intentionally and systematically become their best self. Our approach prioritises prevention by creating an environment and school culture where our five core values are lived out, and where the Wingate Way—emphasising simplicity, a childhood rooted in play rather than devices, and the importance of community—is woven into everything we do. When conflict arises, as it inevitably does in human relationships, our restorative justice approach emphasises reflection, accountability, empathy, and reparation, focusing on the relationships that are fundamental to shaping who we are as a school.

Social Responsibility

As part of our character education, we offer practical opportunities for social responsibility, where students engage in meaningful service projects that foster empathy and global awareness.

Social responsibility, namely, theory put into practice, gives our whole school community numerous opportunities to develop its potential for the benefit of wider society. Students actively participate in initiatives that support underprivileged communities, including our partnership with *Mundo Imayina* in Jicarero, Morelia.

Families with severely ill children attend, and during overnight stays, our students help give families a break while playing with and attending to the needs of the children. This hands-on experience instils empathy and a sense of duty towards others.

The TWS House System

As of Primary, pupils are assigned to one of four Houses, fostering a sense of belonging and healthy competition. Our Houses are named after distinguished Britons, giants in, respectively, the fields of literature, science, university education, and women's rights:

Austen (Yellow) – Literature
Fleming (Red) – Science
Newman (Blue) – University Education
Pankhurst (Purple) – Women's Rights

Houses compete in academic, sports, and cultural events, while House Points reward students for distinguished effort, work, and acts of kindness. Points totals are tallied at the end of the school year to award the House Trophy.
